*This assignment can be applied to any novel* As students come to understand the basic concept of an archetype and the traits of each, they will apply it to literature with this assignment. Students will select one character from the novel they are reading and discuss the evolution of the character, using archetypes (and shadow archetypes) as a framework for analysis. Ultimately the students will create a visual aid (either on paper or through software programs such as PowerPoint or Photo Shop) and present their findings to the class. This will allow them to not only study literature, but also practice the listening/speaking techniques of creating a presentation with a clear introduction, body, and a conclusion, and an effective visual aid. Includes a worksheet to guide them in evaluating the archetypes and evolution of a character in the novel, a student example, and a rubric.
