Some of our high school students who have more severe special needs require support to strengthen their pragmatic language skills. Specifically, at the middle and high school level, our students have a hard time understanding emotions of others and responding in the correct way. We wanted to create a resource to be used that would tie emotions to emojis, which our students commonly use when interacting with friends via technology.
This packet is meant to be used a sequential unit, with each lesson building on the last. There are multiple activity types for different learners, with plentiful opportunities for discussion. There are emoji activities as well as real-life photos to encourage carryover into real-life situations. Although we work with high school students, this packet can be used with all ages!
