One of the most confusing concepts for U.S. history students to grasp is the concept of federalism. Federalism is a system of government where the powers of government are either divided between the states and the national government or are shared between the two. This course/unit explores why the United States developed a federal system, the Constitutional powers granting such a system and the problems associated with such a system.
Students will explore how this system evolved, and how this system created problems early on that exist today.
