Mollie People help your little people understand which number to carry to the tens place during multiplication!
When we first start multiplying two digits by one digit, my students multiply the ones column, but get confused which number to carry to the tens. This handy little mat reinforces the concept of carrying properly. Use the "How to Carry Properly When Multiplying" sheet in a sheet protector with dry erase markers. Have students roll two, 9-sided dice to get the factors for the ones side of the problem. Students write in the factors, multiply and write the product under the line. Then, students erase the number in the tens place in the product and carry it up above the tens place. Erase and repeat the process as many times as you want.
Use the "Multiplication Grids" to practice the entire process.
