Mystery Pixel activities are fun, interactive activities that promote self-assessment for students in Google Sheets™. Students insert their answers into a Google Sheet™ to reveal the answer to a riddle in pixel picture form.
I created this product after having a difficult time finding motivating and engaging ways to target multiple meaning words with my junior high students. This activity is a fun spin on color by number or picture riddles. You must have access to a google™ account to download the google sheets™ format.
This product helps target: vocabulary, multiple meaning words, abstract language, understanding humor & self-assessment.
This product includes:
- 24 multiple meaning vocabulary words
- 24 Jokes embedded with multiple meaning words in context
- assessment data sheet
- 24 visuals
- 2 google sheets mystery picture reveals (2 levels- beginner & intermediate)
The picture cards & data sheet can be printed or used digitally
Instructions included in this packet:
- Collect baseline understanding of multiple meaning words using data sheet provided.
- Review the multiple meaning words/jokes with your client using the cards enclosed in this PDF by scrolling down to the pages below. Cards can be used separate from the google sheets mystery picture activity or simultaneously as you work through each prompt together.
- Based on ability/skill level– start with beginning or intermediate google sheets activity using instructions for sharing on the first page.
- The individual is to solve the riddle above the hidden mystery picture by answering all the questions correctly. Your student will use clues in the sentence to help determine the meaning of the bolded word. They will select the correct answer from the drop-down menu. If they choose an incorrect response, the box will turn red.
This ENTIRE product---including multiple choice prompts are completely interactive- Student clicks on a multiple choice prompt and it will provide feedback as to whether or not they responded correctly. This product helps to encourage the use of context clues and multiple choice format.
This activity is interactive and NO PRINTING required. You are able to use this item on a smart board, IPad, computer or anywhere that can display a PDF file.
