This activity can be used as a supplement when teaching a business plan/proposal unit. It is a great resource to help understand the lines of authority (hierachy) of business companies or just to show how an organizational chart works. This packet allows the students to analyze an organizational chart by actually reading about duties of each employee and they have to decide which employee works where and for whom. The answer key is included for easy assessment.
Also once the students master the concept , I allow them the opportunity to plan their own business and document their employees after learning about the different levels of authority that companies may use. The students love to use their family and friends as their employees. Also, if you have computers in your room, you can easily use the diagram feature in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint to create their own by adding levels as needed.
I have also included instructions and an example on how to create a family tree using Microsoft Word 2010 once they learn the concept of how to create an organizational chart.
