Understanding Place Value & Make Trades: Ones, Tens & Hundreds or Money
In this game students can gain knowledge in the concept of making trades. They will build, read and write numbers to 100 using counters, base-10 blocks and even money. The game reinforces the skills of place value, value, the importance of trades, orally reading numbers, writing numbers, and the connection/relationship between base-10 blocks and coins and bills. Students can play this game with a partner, in a small group or as a whole class. It is perfect to use with a RTI group for intervention or with a GT group for enrichment or extension. It will build students place value foundations and better prepare them for regrouping skills without having to use that standard algorithm. It provides a hands-on learning experience for those learners who just don’t understand place value through the paper pencil method.
