The following worksheet explains what proverbs are and asks students to explain what the following famous proverbs mean. This mini-lesson can act as a springboard to help students better understand proverbs that are outside of their comfort zone or culture in a work that they are reading (e.g. Chinua Achebe's "Things Fall Apart"). At the bottom, students then write three proverbs in the work they're reading and explain what they mean. This activity can clarify and break down confusing or challenging texts and foster cross-cultural connections.
