Understanding Time of Day provides a three object sort card (morning, afternoon and night) for students to place pictures of events / activities that occur during the identified time frame.
For beginners present only on time of day section at a time and as they gain in skills and knowledge add additional time frames. When students can sort between the three time frames instructions can look like this:
Students should be presented one picture at a time and asked, "when do we ____". Students should place on the correct time slot.
For verbal students, they should be expected to verbally tell the instructor the time and the activity to promote further communication and independence.
Print, laminate and cut out pictures for use over and over again. This is a great activity for functional academic center activities, as well as, assessing students understanding of time throughout the day.
