There are 9 Full Page Slides that can be projected or printed and held for students to look at. Teachers can use these slides and think out loud so students can hear and see your thinking about the Commutative Property. It is very effective to print the slides so you can flip them around to visually prove that the amounts don't change when you add the numbers the other way. When students are ready you can gradually release some of the responsibility to them and let them do the work on their own.
There are also 5 Full Page Slides that have 20 domino options on them. Each small domino could be done by different students or one student at a group could do the entire card and then rotate the cards within the group.
There are also 30 Ladybug domino cards that can be printed and laminated for student use. There is a part-part-whole ladybug workmat for the students to use to
record their thinking and to create the equations that fit the domino.
The student response page could be used for practice or assessment.
There are also 17 Word Problems that students have to use critical thinking skills to solve. When they have figured out the missing addend they can write the 2 problems that would be used to show the Commutative Property.
I hope you enjoy using this task with your students!
