This lesson is designed to help students better understand how the periodic table is organized and how to read the table in order to gain useful information about the elements. In this lesson, students will take notes on information about the periodic table (either through a teacher-led lecture or through student-led research (tips for each method are included)). They will also annotate their own periodic table, making it more accessible for future lessons, especially those involving chemical bonds and molecules.
This lesson includes:
*Note-taking guide worksheet
*Modified note-taking guide worksheet
*Completed note-taking guide for teacher use
*Student periodic table worksheets - developed with middle school science in mind
*Annotated periodic table (key)
*Teacher tips for guiding students through the annotations
*Teacher tips for guiding students through the notes, including a student-discovery anticipatory set and tips on both teacher-led or student-led note taking
An excellent lesson for students just learning to use the periodic table and adapted for use with an interactive science notebook as well!
