Robots, deserted islands, and aliens are sure to get your students excited to begin writing! This packet includes 4 unique persuasive writing prompts that are not your standard run of the mill topics. We know your students will have a blast debating whether future humans would prefer a friend or worker robot or if Mars colonization is the path for humanity. Or perhaps you are an alien in a foreign land debating whether to go to war for resources to support their expanding population. How would you lead your alien citizens? These fun and off the wall topics will get your students brainstorming, debating, and writing!
These prompts are to practice the skills of persuasion. Each prompt provides a background story and writing prompt. The page following each prompt is a teacher resource page of example supporting arguments if your students need some extra help. But allowing students the freedom to be creative will often produce the most interesting arguments. These prompts can be used as a warm-up writing activity, journal topic, in-class debate, or for a persuasive writing unit.
