This is a long vowels game that includes word cards for the various ways to spell the long vowel sounds. It can be used during small groups, whole class, word work centers, and can be a differentiated activity. Teacher prints the word cards on cardstock. Then cuts them out, sorts them by type of chocolate (vowel) and puts them in stacks. Students can use either dice (key included) or the provided spinners to play. For 2 players, one takes a turn, gets a card of the type specified on dice key or spinner, reads it correctly, then colors that type of chocolate on the game board. If more than 2 players, then each can take a turn and color their part on a group board. There are 27 cards for each vowel. Teacher can differentiate the game by picking level of difficulty words appropriate for the students. The “mix” set of words can be more challenging, and has multisyllabic and compound words. I have provided two spinners, one with the 5 vowels, and the other with the 5 vowels plus the mix. The word cards are provided in black and white, the dice key and spinners come in color as well. There are lists of the words for each vowel printed like a tag, and can be used for reference, or other activities. There are also blank answer sheets for the different activities and tasks. The vowel word cards can be used all year, not just during Valentine’s Day.
