“Zebra” Bundle Option 2
This Omega English Bundle Package contains everything you need to teach the short story “Zebra” by Chaim Potok. It is intended to be used with the 8th Grade Code X curriculum (pages 134-167). Below are details of the bundle. Each of the following packages are included in the bundle:
A) Zebra First and Second Read Package
Includes 2 detailed Common Core aligned lesson on “Zebra.” The first lesson plan focuses on the first read of the short story. It contains a corresponding Power Point and a First Read Matrix Graphic Organizer for students. The second lesson focuses on the Second Read/Close Reading of the short story. It also contains a corresponding Power Point. It contains differentiated group work; thus, this lesson can be implemented regardless of what type of diverse learners you have in your classroom.
B) Assessment – Includes a 33 multiple choice assessment on the short story “Zebra.” Questions are text dependent and range from comprehension to text analysis.
C) Identifying Evidence Package – Includes a Common Core aligned lesson plan, Power Point, 3 differentiated graphic organizers, and a teacher checklist/conference sheet
D) Interactive Academic Vocabulary Package- A very detailed Common Core aligned lesson on the Academic Vocabulary in “Zebra.” It also includes a vivid Power Point with visuals that corresponds to the lesson and 2 differentiated graphic organizers. You also get free access to an interactive site that contains virtual flashcard created by Omega English. Link and password is included in the document. On the site students will listen to the word, practice spelling the word, match the word with the definition, and play several games using the word. You can also give the students the password to access these flashcards at home. This ensures that the needs of all audio, visual, and tactile learners are being meet.
E) Teacher Generated Graphic Organizer and Writing Prompt: Includes a graphic organizer that visually represents the relationship between Andrea and Zebra, and how it changes throughout the text. It helps students focus on textual evidence in order to support their responses. Writing prompt is also included
It can be used as a classroom activity, given for homework, used as differentiation, used for small group instruction, or for an extension activity. In provides a great foundation for the Performance Task.
F) Craft and structure of a letter Package- Includes a graphic organizer that corresponds to pages 167 in the grade 8 Code X curriculum. It allows students to visually organize the sections of the Mr. Wilson’s letter to Zebra and discuss the significance. This product can be used in class as part of a lesson, as an extension activity, or given as HW.
G) Key Ideas and Details Graphic Organizers Package- Includes
2 graphic organizers. They include a time line of important events and focuses on the significance of characters as they relate to the central idea. It corresponds to the 8th Grade Code X curriculum .
Lesson plans and Power Points are print and presentation ready; however, files are unlocked so that they can be easily edited in the event you need to make any changes.
