CC math= deep thinking, deep discussion, and fun
Unit 5 is completely written around the math CC standards. It is the last unit in this series. It covers standards:
-1.MD.1 and 2-Measurement
Students will be measuring in nonstandard units with Goldilocks and the three bears. Students will have to put the bears in order from shortest to tallest and beds from shortest to longest. They will also be comparing measurements with grow animals. Measuring with paper clips and understanding the ideas of no gaps or overlaps. Then the measurement finale ends with the "cotton ball" Olympics. Students will participate in 4 games (stations) where they will have to blow, kick, flick, and throw the cotton ball then measure in paper clips the distance it traveled. It is a fun and indepth study into the world of nonstandard measurement
This unit also covers standards:
1.OA.1-Addition and Subtraction
1.NBT.4- Adding with in 100
Since this is the last unit, the last week is all fun based around 1st grade learning. Students will play scoot past 1st grade, create a math learning memory book, and play race to 2nd grade. These units have been successfully implemented in the classroom and have proven to be extremely successful. This is a 4 week unit with extra work for homework or classwork.
