Unit Circle Activity: It's a Race! is an activity that is incredibly engaging! It helps students practice quick math skills in a competition! It’s great for questions that can be completed mentally.
Using the unit circle to evaluate sine, cosine and tangent.
How this activity can be used in class:
It’s a Race! can be used in many ways, and below is a description of how I use it in class! The pages are copied front-to-back, and then I cut out the cards. I make enough sets so that each pair can share one set of cards. I ask the students to lay out all of the cards on their desks and both students in the pair should have equal access to all of the cards. I write questions on the board – the questions are used from the back of the cards.
Students will try to grab the card before their partner! They will know they are correct if the back of their card matches the question on the board. When they find it, they should pick it up and hold it in the air to show they are done. After students find the correct card, they should keep it!
This activity could be used as flash cards and students could quiz each other. They could also be used in a sort to match up common math themes.
