Students find visualizing some aspects of math difficult. But, with Geogebra
, the user can move and change objects with the click of a mouse. When you move the angle slider, a point on the circumference of the unit circle moves as well. Text boxes automatically update and display the changing angle in degrees as well as the lengths of the adjacent and opposite sides of the right angled triangle formed by the radius and the x and y legs of the point on the circumference. Each of the critical angles in a typical unit circle are identified (and marked in radians) around the perimeter of the circle to guide the discovery.
, a free program, is quickly and easily downloaded from the internet to both computers and tablets (as an app). Students can work individually in a computer lab or you could use the flipped classroom model and have them complete the exercise at home. Alternatively, you can go through the exercise in class as a group using a projector and just one computer.
Four pdf pages of exercises and questions along with answer keys for each page will guide your students through the process of discovering and identifying many of the patterns and relationships associated with the unit circle. They are designed to provide a complete resource to fully explore this topic.
