I do this project with my Intro to Visual Arts class that is mixed grad (9th-12th). My students do not have visual arts at their middle school, so I this project is actually appropriate for lower grade levels as well.
This project is inspired by Gustav Klimt, but in my unit I also tie in contemporary, minority artists Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald. This project can be made engaging for so many students: for example, some of my athletes loved designing jerseys for their favorite basketball players.
This resource is a 17 page word document file that includes the daily handouts I give the students over the course of the 8 lessons in the unit. The word document can be edited to suit your needs! This includes step by step drawing "Do Nows" for the first five minutes of class, a project rubric, notes sheets, a unit quiz study guide, and the end of unit quiz.
Please check out my shop for the unit outline (with materials list) in my Long Term Plan for Intro to Visual Arts, as well as the Powerpoints for this unit.
