Have you decided to have Science journals in your Science class this year, but have no idea where to start?! Believe me, I was in your shoes!
This file will help you get started and keep your journal organized. I have included the 15 units of study I teach in my 5th grade Science class, in the order of which I teach them. These units are:
1. Nature of Science
2. Force, Motion and Mechanical Energy
3. Magnetism and Electrical Energy
4. Light Energy
6. Thermal Energy
9. Weather and Climate
10. Constructive and Destructive Forces
11. Formation of Sedimentary Rocks and Fossils
12. Natural Resources
After I use these concepts to introduce the new unit, I give the students time to sketch what ideas were formed while we talked on the next page of the journal.
Also included in the file: "fancy cloud bubble" template, a picture of my Force concept page and Unit Title Page from my journal and a "how-to" for making a pocket in your journal.
Please let me know if you have any other questions about having your students create their own journals for Science. When I first started, it was very intimidating, but now that we've done it for 3 years, I am more comfortable with them and the kids LOVE them!
