This was from a course I taught for several years called Fundamentals of Algebra and Geometry, with emphasis on the FUN! Creative presentations and activities help keep students engaged. All materials are numbered in the order I used them in class. Students were primarily 9th graders, though this can be used or adapted for grades 6-12. This unit lasted approximately three weeks with 80 minute classes.
Some of the topics addressed include:
The Metric System
Converting Metric Units
Metric Units of Mass
Metric Units of Capacity/Density
Customary Units of length
Customary Units of Weight and Capacity
Formulas and Temperature
**An Essay Project! Cross-curricular connections! - The preview shows part of the essay project. This project could be accomplished in math class only, or you could collaborate with an English teacher and have it extend to students' English class as well.
Please ask questions! :)
