This unit covers argumentative writing with an accent on the following: How to read and analyze a prompt; how to prewriting for an argumentative essay; how to draft, review, edit and publish and argumentative essay; how to reflect on the process of writing an argumentative essay to prepare for other writing tasks, and how to review argumentative writing to a prompt before a standardized test. The unit is prefaced with a workshop for teachers on using argumentative writing in the classroom. The unit includes a pretest, a mini-unit on standard essay format, academic vocabulary necessary for argumentative writing, PowerPoints with advanced organizers for each step of the writing process focused on argumentative writing and writing to standardized tests, lesson plans and rubrics for evaluating student argumentative writing.
