Unit Rate: Math Game/Math Center

This is a great math game or center to teach, reinforce, or differentiate for finding unit rates. I use this with my middle school math students and they love it! All you need are some dice and something to use for playing pieces. This product contains all the rest!

Students work in groups of 2-4 to play the game. They shuffle the "Unit Rate Scenario" cards and place them face down in front of them. They then pull a card and read the scenario. Each scenario provides them with ratio choices. They have to look and decide which they think the best unit rate will be out of the choices given. They mark their choice on their student recording sheet and then solve for the unit rate they've chosen. The other group members do the same. Next, students compare answers to see who chose and figured out the best unit rate. To determine whether or not they solved correctly and to figure out their moves on the game board, they consult the answer key. The key will tell them how many moves they've earned based on their choice. Play continues until someone reaches the finish!

Example scenario: Scenario #2:

You are purchasing chips for a HUGE birthday party. Which bargain do you choose to get the best price?

a. $17 for 8 bags of chips
b. $12 for 5 bags of chips
c. $21 for 10 bags of chips
d. $30 for 16 bags of chips

Example answer key reference:
