Good collaborative activity for RATE and DIVISION OF DECIMALS. Students will use a map and map scale to travel to US tourist attractions while reinforcing decimal and division concepts ~ Distance/Speed = Time
They can use maps from their social studies book or atlases if you don't have large US maps.
(Example: A student might discover, It took me 7.2 hours to travel from my home town to the Statue of Liberty!" Some kids will think 7.2 hours means 7 hours 2 minutes. Preteach that every 1/10 of an hour = 6 minutes.
You need large maps of the USA or at least atlas copies.
