This activity includes a lesson about unit rates. Students are given the following objectives:
1. Students will use the given price information of cost per number ounces to determine the unit rate for each box of cereal.
2. Students will compare the unit rates of cereals to determine which box is the best value.
3. Students will explain how this process will be useful in the future.
The teacher will go through a visual powerpoint to show price tags for boxes of four popular cereals. For each cereal type, there are two different price tags. Students will find the unit rate for each box, how much each ounce of cereal costs, to determine the best value. Students have a recording worksheet to share their findings with extension questions. There is an answer key included. Use this product to help make your instruction more meaningful.
