Description

On each card, students find unit rates given two short word problems. Next, they either add, subtract, multiply or divide their two unit rates (based on what their card says to do) to see if the result matches the check number in the lower right corner of the card. Chances are if the check number matches, all unit rates were found correctly!

This activity is self-checking, giving students that instant feedback they love. The activity is easily differentiated. You can give the 10-card version (of either the printable or digital activity) to students who need a shorter activity.

Included inside:

  • 20 task cards
  • student answer sheet
  • answer key
  • digital version in Google Forms

The printable version Includes 20 task cards that print 4 per page. Two versions of the paper answer sheet are included: one with spaces to answer all 20 cards and one with spaces to answer 10 cards, if you'd like a shorter activity.

The digital version is in Google Forms. There are 2 versions included: one version includes all 20 cards. The second version includes just 10 cards, if you'd like students to have a shorter activity.

This was a great resource for my unit of study. The activity was easy to put together and set up. It kept the students engaged and on task and they really enjoyed working in groups while completing it. I'll definitely keep the activity in my reteaching activities to use at other time during the year just for added practice.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. For example, “The ratio of wings to beaks in the bird house at the zoo was 2:1, because for every 2 wings there was 1 beak.” “For every vote candidate A received, candidate C received nearly three votes.”
Understand the concept of a unit rate 𝘢/𝘣 associated with a ratio 𝘢:𝘣 with 𝘣 ≠ 0, and use rate language in the context of a ratio relationship. For example, “This recipe has a ratio of 3 cups of flour to 4 cups of sugar, so there is 3/4 cup of flour for each cup of sugar.” “We paid $75 for 15 hamburgers, which is a rate of $5 per hamburger.”
Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems, e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations.
