This unit of work was made by myself and a friend (and colleague) for a university assignment in an English & Literacy subject. It is a whole unit of work (4-5 lessons) based around the book "Romping Monsters, Stomping Monsters" by Jane Yolen. It includes activities covering oral language, reading, writing and cross-curriculum links to health and physical education. It links to the Foundation Level curriculum in AusVELS 2015. However, parts of this lesson are more challenging than others and can be used for other year levels such as Grade 1.
For each subject area, for example oral language, it includes detailed lesson purposes/aims, learning activities and assessment ideas and links. In the final assessment of a writing piece, it includes an "Early Emergent Writing Assessment Sheet" that can be used as a final assessment to the unit (Hill, 2012). Also included are visual examples in order to aid understanding and make it easier for teachers to plan and incorporate this unit of work into their classroom.
