The Holocaust is often a popular topic of study in both my US and World History classes; however, that was often where our curriculum ended with regards to crimes against humanity. Over the years I have always had students ask if anything like the Holocaust has ever happened since or elsewhere. I would tell them “yes” but we often did not study any of these other events in any type of detail. Over the last few years I have developed a unit that focuses on having my students research another genocide that has occurred and create a multimedia presentation to present their research.
The standard that I work with is:
SWBAT: Assess the responses of the United States and other nations to the violation of human rights that occurred during the Holocaust and other genocides – I have a research project for my students to complete that will allow them to meet this standard.
I have an entire unit of study that focuses on the Holocaust so for this unit I will focus on the other genocides.
Included in this packet are notes, suggested assignments, research projects for the students to complete along with additional suggestions for instruction and useful websites to use for research.
**Students will need access to computers with internet for completion of most of the suggested activities and assignments
this unit will usually take more than 1 week to complete
