Here is my Grade 6 ready-to-print unit on space. In this unit I address several topics related to space and I give students the opportunity to do some research on their own. I have tried and tested this unit with my grade 6 MFI's and they seem to like the simplified language since sometimes textbook language can be a little too complicated for some.
I have covered aspects such as the early theories on the formation of the universe, Copernicus and other astronomers/scientists that have contributed to our contemporary knowledge of space, I have discussed the components of our solar systems, and I have included some of the famous astronauts and Canadian contributions. I have also addressed the environmental impacts and potential future directions of space travel.
Overall, I love studying space with my Grade 6's. They tend to be quite engaged with the topic and they normally do quite well with what I give them.
I normally let them work collaboratively with a partner or in groups of 3 when doing the tasks for this unit. Some of the tasks in this package will require the integration of technology.
