Watch your students apply 21st century skills as they problem solve and critically think with their classmates about the most pressing global issues in the world through the role of the United Nations. Teach the students how the UN works by having them assume the role of a UN representative of an individual country and create researched based resolutions that offer solutions to global issues in their country. This unique assignment makes students become active learners about the contemporary issues plaguing our planet and their countries. Students conduct research and write six resolutions about the following: Trafficking, Child Rights, Women’s rights, Climate Change, Terrorism, WMD & Poverty. The assignments models resolutions similar to the actual UN but the project adds a research and citation component to help students in research writing. The assignment concludes with an optional video, artwork and presentation to extend student learning.
The project includes: rubrics for grading, pre & post questions, samples and a focus on state standards. Teach students the importance of global awareness and global issues and how they affect countries of the world differently.
