Students review basic American physical geography and political geography on a map, including time zones, bodies of water, mountain ranges, state names, state capitals, and more. Students complete 9 tasks on 3 different maps of the United States largely to reinforce the location of each state. In completing these tasks, students review what they have learned about political and physical features of the US. By using some fun labeling items they can master the political geography of the United States. Students then answer 3 opinion based questions. An answer key is provided where appropriate. Depending on your resources available, students may need library research time. A list of websites is provided for students to begin that research.
Sample tasks and questions include:
-- Draw the lines representing each time zone.
--Label the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, and 3 rivers of your choosing.
--If someone is visiting America for the first time, which top 3 states should they visit and which 3 should they skip and why?
