We collect postcards from the United States to use for Social Studies. Friends and family send us postcards as they travel throughout the school year, and we tie them into our learning. We might use a postcard from Tennessee and the Smoky Mountains to help us learn about landforms. We might use a postcard from Iowa of corn to help us learn what products grow where and why. We make personal books, keep a large class map going of where we have received postcards from, and do several projects throughout the year that are related to our postcard collection. It is so much fun, and the families and friends enjoy it as much as we do.
