The teaching of geography must change to match what our students are being asked to do on state and national assessments. This complete unit enables you to do just that! Your students will learn how to interpret social studies information presented in a variety of formats. You will help your students develop the skills they will use to understand how geographical concepts are connected as well as the strategies they need to internalize to be successful learners. The lesson begins with analyzing what makes nonfiction reading difficult and ends with an assessment. Few other materials are needed. It would be easy to incorporate these activities using your district social studies text, but one is not needed.
