Product Description
US: States and Capitals Matching Game. The purpose of this resource is to get your students better acquainted with the states and their capitals in a fun and challenging way.

Teacher Tips:
-Included in this resource are 50 state cards & 50 capital city cards. Each state card contains a question that relates to that particular state. Each capital card contains the answer to the trivia question. In addition, each card contains a picture of the shape of the state.

-You will need to print off the 100 cards in color and then carefully cut them out. It’s recommended that you copy these cards off on a heavier cardstock-type paper. It’s also helpful if these cards can be laminated.

-While there are several different games/activities that can be played with these types of cards, here are a couple suggestions:

Matching Game
You can have your students play the traditional matching game where they work in groups of 3-4 and place the 100 cards face-down on a table or the floor. Then they take turns and try to match the state to its capital.

Collect a Pair Game
You can also have your students work in groups of 2-4 and try to collect as many pairs (state to its capital) until they are all out of cards. For this game, students need to shuffle the cards, deal out an even number of cards to each player (6, 8, 10, etc.), and then try to pair up the state to its capital. Students will look at their cards and set any pair off to the side. To get a pair, students will need to take turns asking other players if they have a card that they need (Example: “Do you have the capital of Alaska?”). If the player has the card, then he/she gives the card to the player who asked. If he/she does not, then the original player takes a card from the deck and discards a card from his/her hand. The game continues until a player has no cards left.

-Students can also play games with just the 50 state or 50 capital cards. Games can be played that relate to the number of syllables in a name, the location of the state in the United States (regions), etc

Your students will love these games!

We have realized students in the United States are not learning these important geography skills in many school districts. This resource will help your students be successful with the United States states and capitals.
