This unit is designed for students to research and learn about each state individually. There is a brief answer key for all 50 states.
Several different resources can be used for this project; textbooks, internet, travel guides, etc. While doing this with a first grader we used primarily travel guides, maps, and the internet. We also used several Cricut© shape cutouts from their 50 states cartridge. Each page is clearly labeled.
Have FUN and be creative.
Print pages 3 through 12, make as many copies as you need for your students. Please do not distribute outside of your own classroom.
Page 3: Cover Page
Page 4: Blank map so student can locate, label, and color state of choice (possibly label additional states).
Pages 5 – 12: The nuts and bolts of each state.
(This includes; capital, flag, seal, bird, tree, flower, geography, climate, industry, agriculture, resources, monuments, notable places, and famous people)
Page 14-37: Short answer key for each state (alphabetically).
Answer key is not intended to be a comprehensive list, only to be used as a stepping stone for possible answers. Have students engage in discussions about each state referring back to research materials. For example if you use travel guides have students talk about places they might like to visit or things to do within that state.
If you have any questions comments or concerns please don't hesitate to ask...I'm more than happy to lend a helping hand. :)
