In Module 1 from Engage NY, our fifth-grade classes studied the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. As a quick writing activity to follow up around Christmastime, we are writing about our gifts to the world.
Reflecting on the UDHR, students decide which basic human right they would like to give as a gift to the world. Why do people deserve this right? Who would benefit from this gift? How would they go about making this happen?
This document comes with an introduction page, idea web, and a graphic organizer for the essay. The final copy could be done on lined paper with a construction paper cover. Cut strips of different colored construction paper to look like ribbon and a bow, and title it The Human Right I'd Give to the World.
