This is the perfect read aloud for "national screen free week" the last week in April/first week in May -- but relevant ANYTIME of year.
Encourage your students to UNPLUG from digital entertainment and go outside to PLAY.
This activity pack includes the following curricular extensions:
-Compare and contrast when Blip was unplugged vs plugged. Differentiate by either having students write their own responses or cut/glue the phrases
-Story retelling. Differentiate by having students either sequence with picture clues, provide a “word wall” for guided writing, or write a summary independently.
-Text to text connections. Read poem (which compares eating cupcakes to screen time) and discuss the author’s message.
-Text to self connections. Organizer for students to share activities that they like to do which are “plugged” and “unplugged”
-Craft and writing activity. Students can cut/glue Blip together. 2 options are provided for his body; both with and without lines.
-Prefix center/activity. Prefix cards to cut and display in a pocket chart (using “un”). Students write the meaning and complete crossword puzzle.
-"Pledge to unplug" certificate. Visit http://www.screenfree.org/ for more information on “National Screen Free Week” – but can be used anytime! Encourage your students to “unplug”
