What Is An Algorithm?

An algorithm is a series of steps that solve a problem or objective.

In order to be effective, the steps need to be in the right order!

This resource introduces Algorithms to children 7-10 years in a fun way!

The student designs a path to,

  • Get Santa to the present
  • The deer to the bell
  •  Bauble onto the tree.

They are creating a series of instructions, with a directional arrow, to achieve their goal, in other words, Algorithms!

There are parameters they have to follow through…

Prime Numbers 1 - 50!

A child-friendly explanation of “What Are Algorithms?” is included in the introduction.

Some of the puzzles have an incorrect path already drawn and the unplugged programmer has to debug it (or find where it went wrong)

Solutions to every puzzle are included.

There are 7 Puzzles in the pack

  • 1 Design your own


Activities:
Activity 1: Students draw the appropriate directional arrows to follow a prime numbers path (numbers up to 50) to get Santa to the Gift.
Then they Debug a failed attempt!

Activity 2: Students draw the appropriate directional arrows to follow a prime number path (numbers up to 50) to get the bauble to the tree.
Then they debug a failed attempt!

Activity 4: Students create their own puzzle by inserting their own number pattern and then show their algorithm path by drawing the directional arrows.
