PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This Upper Elementary Poetry Unit is designed to be used as a tool to analyze ANY TYPE OF POETRY. Pick a poem and use the questions and graphic organizers to guide your students to become experts at poetry analysis. This unit can be used for whole class instruction, mini-lessons, small group/guided reading instruction, or used in Literacy Centers for independent practice. If you are looking for a way to prep students for STAAR, this unit has everything you need!

Students will be able to:
-Make inferences about poetic structure and elements of poetry
-Cite evidence from the poem to support their answers
- Analyze figurative language and sensory details in poetry and explain how it helped their understanding of the poem
-Use context clues to determine or clarify unfamiliar words
-Summarize the poem
-Identify the main idea
-Explain the theme of the poem
-Identify the speaker of the poem
-Use graphic organizers to brainstorm and write original poems
