Are you trying to incorporate a jolly celebration of literature during the month of December, but your upper elementary/middle school students have already heard The Polar Express and How the Grinch Stole Christmas a million times?? Then this unit is for you!
This unit integrates social studies from 1890s through the 1920s. It includes interactive read alouds, reading activities, and reading response/TDA questions for SIX different upper level picture books as well as culminating reading response/TDA questions. It's planned and ready to implement tomorrow! Reading skills reviewed include main idea and details, summarizing/plot chart, sequencing/retelling, historical contexts, context clues, comparing fictional text structures [prose, drama, and poetry], comparing two texts on a similar topic, and inferences.
Be sure to keep your eyes out for Volume 2!
