This activity can be set up as an individual task, group task or be part of a workstation, there is a set of coloured and black and white images as well.
First of all, print and laminate these sheets and cut them up. Then mix up all the cards. Students then need to match up the pairs of upper and lowercase letters with their initial sound picture.
To make it easier, print the sheets twice and leave one set in tact. Students can then put the mixed up cards ON TOP of the in placemats.
To EXTEND students, have them put the letters in alphabetical order. Have students think of another word that has the same initial sound as the picture.
The cards could be used for a game of MEMORY.
Paperclips could be attached to a hole in each card, put a magnet on a makeshift fishing rod and students can “fish” for the cards as more of a physical challenge.
Cards could be used to work on individual letters that students don’t know yet.
This resource has one set in Vic Modern Cursive font for schools in Victoria, Australia and One set in Comic Sans font.
