Upside-down drawing is a fun activity to get the students thinking about the lines and shapes they are drawing rather than the end result. often students who have trouble drawing will become frustrated in art class. This activity will help combat frustration in two ways:
1) It helps students learn to focus on the lines, shapes, scale, colours and contours of the drawing
2) Just about every student will create a distorted or funny looking character on their first try. Put the focus on having fun drawing and the students can compare how crazy their drawing was with others. This helps those students who are self-conscious of their drawing open up and laugh with the rest of the class.
This power point gives an explanation of why we use upside-down drawing as an art practice tool. It also helps the teacher to explain the steps visually to the students.
