This is an opportunity to bring polynomial functions into the real world. Along using polynomial functions and developing regressions skills, students will engage in thoughtful city planning from the perspective of a member of the City Commission for Urban Planning.

-- In "Population Projections", students will practice using polynomial functions to model behavior. Students will need TI Graphing Calculators or access to Excel to use Regression Functions.
-- In "Urban Sprawl", students put their regression, prediction and polynomial skills to the test as they analyze the population of communities that are bidding to build a new shopping mall. To conclude, students will pretend to be members of a Urban Development team and must create a proposal to the shopping mall corporation articulating which area of the city they think is the best place to build.
