Description
A simulation game to recreate the growth of a city. The game gives students a one minute timer to add a list of things to a blank map for every 10 year period of growth beginning in 1843 and ending in 2003. The simulation is meant to be frustrating and difficult so that students really get an idea of the many issues that can arise when a city develops quickly. The city used in this powerpoint is Portland, Oregon, but you could easily change the city to be the one in which you live or another city of interest.

Thanks!
I really loved this resource. Students completed some of it at home and the instructions were pretty complex for them (I teach general Environmental Science, not AP). I'm confident AP level learners could have managed it, but this resource is definitely at the top of my list to use this year in person!!
Great resource!
Do you have a copy of a blank map that you could include with this resource?
At first my students were beyond frustrated, but as time went on they started to work together to accomplish the tasks and ended up having so much fun!
Awesome, glad to hear it! I love watching their frustration turn to fun :)
