Using My Words: A Social Story is written to teach children how to use there words in many different types of social interactions.
It can be hard for children to find the right words to say when they are shy, sad, or angry. This social story lays out many different scenarios they will encounter on a daily basis, and shows them how they can use their words to handle the situation.
Encouraging children to work out their problems helps to establish independence and confidence. Let the children know you are always there to help, but using this story will also help them learn how to first try and work it out on their own. It will also help cut down on tattling and running to you at any little sign of trouble.
This simple story teaches children to use their words in situations like: asking to play, answering a question, sharing materials, waiting for your turn, and helping others.
Using these stories really help children to see and understand what is expected of them in certain situations. Social stories are a great tool to use at the beginning of the year to get your kiddos into a specific routine.
