This organizer allows the reader to focus on an unknown word, and through context clues, try and decipher the connotation of the word. The student will first record the word they do not know. Secondly, they will record the sentence in which it was found. Third, they will list words, or clues, surrounding the word that they think help them decipher the meaning. Fourth, they will define what they think the word means. It is important students understand that they should not be looking up the words in a dictionary. (This activity is to help them on a test, when they won't be able to use a dictionary.) Lastly, they will say what kind of tone the word has.
