Description

English Language Learners at an intermediate level of language proficiency frequently make errors when using did + a verb when writing and speaking in the simple past tense. They are the students who will benefit most from this grammar resource, although your other students might also find it useful.

This resource includes a chart that clearly explains how to use did + a verb when writing and speaking. You can display it on a bulletin board or an interactive whiteboard, or make copies for your students to keep in their writing journals.

There are 3 tasks that let students practice using this grammar structure:

* Students choose the correct form of a verb in sentences with this grammar structure (an answer key is provided for your convenience)

* A writing task where students write their own sentences using did + a verb in the simple past tense

* Students select from a list of prompts and write a short dialog that includes the did + a verb grammar structure

How to use this resource remotely:

a) Tell students to use the Google Drive version.

b) Send photocopies of the printable student pages home. Tell students to send their work back to you when when they have completed them.

The tasks in this resource have been used successfully with ELLs in Grades 5 - 8 and will definitely help students learn and remember how to use did + a verb in the simple past tense.
