Product Description
Teaching the Hero's Journey by itself doesn't quite cover everything we need students to understand about story. The Story Plot elements don't touch on the hero and what it takes for readers to feel satisfied at the end. But how do you blend these two approaches to story together?

With Disney's Moana, of course!

The Hero's Journey is universal narrative pattern that is a constant in drama, storytelling, and myth. The archetype, AKA The Hero, is central to all stories.

The Story Plot Elements (Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution) are a basic framework for story.

In reality, the two are intertwined. One cannot exist without the other. This PPT/PDF (both are provided here) will take you through the movie Moana, looking at both the Hero's Journey and the Story Plot Elements. What better way to see these concepts in action?

Moana incorporates The Ordinary World, The Call to Adventure, Refusal of the Call, Meeting the Mentor, Crossing the Threshold, Tests, Allies and Enemies, The Ordeal, The Reward, The Road Back, and The Resurrection. It also has the fundamental Story Plot Elements (Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution).

Use this resource as a way to introduce these important concepts to your students in an engaging and accessible way. The PPT includes note to help you talk through the slide show. It can be edited for your use.

The slide show is 56 slides, is replete with pictures from Moana, and will have students engaged throughout!
