This is a double set of task cards (2 sets of 24, or 48 cards total) designed to give students practice with solving rate problems using a double number line diagram. These problems were designed to support common core 6.RP.3.
I first started using this model last year when my school implemented common core and made a set of task cards to use with my above level fifth graders. My students did well with the model, and I quickly realized that I needed more practice for them. I particularly wanted them to work with problems that did not always present the unit rate.
I designed these additional cards to use after my initial set of cards (those are available with worksheets in another bundle in my store). These cards are brand new and do not duplicate that original set.
This bundle includes Set B and Set C (24 cards each) of task cards, and the necessary student recording sheets and answer keys. It also includes a student note page that I created to help students better understand how to effectively use the double number lines.
I had my students work in pairs as they worked their way through the cards. I found that having them use whiteboards was helpful, and I circulated to talk to the pairs of students about the math as they worked. I feel that the students get a lot of benefit out of talking through the situations, and I tend to pair them strategically.
This is a 17-page PDF file. The task cards are designed to be 4 per page, and take up 12 pages of the PDF. The recording sheets and answer keys are each 1 page, for 4 more pages. The final page is the student note sheet.
