Students will practice finding literary devices in two excerpts from Chapter 2 of Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis. This is designed to help students identify and label figurative language such as alliteration, similes, and onomatopoeia. In addition, students will work with the concept of "expanding a moment" or "showing, not telling" in a piece of writing. This activity is good for a mini-lesson used before writing or in the revision process.
