Product Description
This unit includes 16 lessons that are spelled out from beginning to end including objectives, common core standards, procedures, and assessments. The unit focuses on using the mystery genre to teach questioning, summarizing, and analyzing characters strategies. I have listed the third grade Common Core standards, but this could easily be converted to second, fourth or fifth grade using reading literature anchor standards 1, 2, and 3.

This unit is set over a six week timeframe. There are 16 lessons planned that will last around 45 minutes each. The lessons could be broken up to create more 30 minute lessons. The beginning of the unit is based on the free unit available at http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plan/exploring-mystery-genre. This website also has links to the information and graphic organizers references in the first few lessons. The remaining lessons are split between learning to ask and answer questions, determine character traits, motivations, and feelings, and summarize what is read.
